Brew 4 – Irish Red

This beer was based on the recipe at http://www.brew-monkey.com/recipes/html/bigheadirishred.htm.

  • Fermentables
    • 3.3 lb Briess CBW Pilsen LME (SRM 2)
    • 3.3 lb Briess CBW Golden LME (SRM 4)
    • 1.2 lb Pure Clover Honey
  • Steeped Grains
    • 1.1 lb Crystal Malt 10L
    • 0.20 lb Caramel/Crystal Malt 80L
    • 0.20 lb Roasted Barley (SRM 300)
  • Hops
    • 1.5 oz Kent Goldings (5%) for 60 min
    • 0.5 oz Kent Goldings (5%) for 15 min
  • Misc
    • Whirlfloc Tablet (Irish Moss) for 10 min
  • Yeast
    • White Labs British Ale Yeast WLP005 (liquid)

I tried one at two weeks but it was not very carbonated yet. I think it needs another two weeks. At four weeks it was a little more carbonated, but has a bad finish and doesn’t taste great. Don’t need to do this one again.
