My first beer was a True Brew Pale Ale kit. I fermented it in the 5 gal. glass carboy with airlock on top, but some foam leaked out through the airlock. I may use a hose into an overflow pail for my next one. I may also use the plastic fermenter as I do not have good equipment to measure the gravity in the carboy.
